Background

The ICT Youth Bootcamp, held on 15 November in Gauteng, brought together 80 SMEs eager to enhance their business processes through the latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. The event was a collaborative effort involving key industry players, including CSIR, NEMISA, ZADNA, Standard Bank, Geekulcha, and the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS). The aim was to equip SMEs with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Objective

The primary goal of the ICT Youth Bootcamp was to provide SMEs with practical insights into the latest ICT trends and skills. The bootcamp sought to empower participants to leverage these technologies to improve their operations, drive innovation, and stay competitive in the marketplace.

Approach

The bootcamp featured a diverse range of workshops and panel discussions, each designed to address critical aspects of ICT and its application in business:

  1. Panel Discussion: Experts from CSIR, ZADNA, DTPS, and Gauteng eGovernment led a discussion on the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) within the South African context.   3. Interactive Media Workshop: NEMISA led this session, offering participants hands-on experience with interactive media tools. The workshop emphasized the role of media in engaging customers and enhancing brand communication.
  4. Website Domains Workshop: ZADNA provided an in-depth look at the importance of domain registration and management. SMEs were guided through the process of choosing and securing a domain name that aligns with their brand and business goals.
  5. ICT Connectivity Workshop: Presented by USAASA, this workshop addressed the critical need for reliable ICT connectivity. Participants explored various connectivity solutions that can enhance business operations and customer engagement.
  6. Social Media Marketing Workshop: Mixo Ngubeni of Geekulcha led this session, focusing on the power of social media for brand building and customer outreach. The workshop provided practical tips for creating effective social media strategies tailored to the needs of SMEs.
  7. Digital Master Class: Presented by EOH, this master class delved into advanced digital tools and strategies. Participants were introduced to cutting-edge technologies that can streamline operations, improve customer experiences, and drive growth.
